The history of this house in the New Zealand town of Arrowtown (Arrow City) began with a tiny stone house. Several years ago, the couple Belinla and Jeff decided to create a modern living space with a touch of antiquity. It was important for the interior designers to preserve the masonry and old floors as much as possible. The owners focused on naturalness: stone, clay tiles, Oregon pine, Australian parquet, cedar board – each texture and color flows smoothly and passes into the next. This house has a character: it is stately, wise and majestic. The interior decoration is simultaneously two styles: country and vintage. The designers have done an amazing job combining antiques with comfortable modern furniture and accessories. The site is surrounded by a stone fence, which is not a single hundred years old, and although a low fence will not protect against thieves, this is the best way to pay tribute to age-old traditions. The backyard turned out to be surprisingly cozy and homely: a bar counter made of a solid piece of wood, wicker furniture, a fireplace, and most importantly the forest, the river and the mountains around – this is what the small mountain house was restored for – quiet evenings alone with family and nature on the estate, where the spirit of history reigns.
